New Restaurants in Wayne NJ, Fall 2026: What's Opening?

Since July, Wayne has gained two sit-down dinner restaurants and lost one. Over the same months, four counter-service businesses have announced plans to open here. There's a bakery and coffee shop on Hamburg Turnpike, a sub shop on Berdan Avenue, a juice bar on Route 23 and a proposed drive-through coffee stand farther up Route 23. The places you sit down at for dinner are mostly trading spots. The new growth is in coffee, breakfast and lunch.

Here's where each one stands as of September 30, 2026, and what to expect.

Where Things Stand on September 30

Business Location What it serves Status
Raeya's 37 Berdan Ave. Northern Italian, steaks, seafood, cocktails Open since early July
Sakana 25 NJ-23 All-you-can-eat dining, lunch and dinner Soft opening set for Sept. 19
Morning Club Bread & Coffee 163 Hamburg Turnpike Specialty coffee, bread, pastries, breakfast Under construction, expected October
Tony Boy's Sandwich House 239 Berdan Ave. Subs, cheesesteaks, salads, milkshakes Expected fall 2026
Tropical Juice Bar Route 23 Smoothies, juices, Dominican-inspired meals, empanadas Broke ground in July, no opening date
7 Brew Route 23 north shopping center Drive-through coffee Proposed, before the Planning Board
Blossom Asian Bistro 1490 Route 23 Asian cuisine Announced Sept. 26 as its last day

Only two of the seven are open and serving. The rest are somewhere between a Planning Board application and a remodel.

The Morning Is Getting the Most New Places

The opening closest to happening is Morning Club Bread & Coffee at 163 Hamburg Turnpike. Patch reported on September 16 that the shop expects to open in October. No exact date had been announced, and the interior was getting a complete remodel. The menu combines three things that are often found at separate stops: specialty coffee, bread and pastries baked fresh, and a breakfast menu with dishes made to order. In its announcement, the owners say they're aiming for "warmth and effortless speed." That suggests a shop that wants to handle the weekday rush and still be somewhere you'd stay for a weekend breakfast.

Over on Route 23, Tropical Juice Bar broke ground on its Wayne location in July. The company's own update names the owners as Jose and Dreldy and says construction had started, with work still to finish before opening. The menu goes beyond smoothies and juices to include Dominican-inspired meals, empanadas and wraps. That makes it a place you could get lunch, not just a drink. No street number or opening date has been published yet.

The third morning addition is still only a proposal. NorthJersey.com reported on August 27 that a 7 Brew drive-through coffee stand is planned for a shopping center on Route 23 north. The application needs approval from the Wayne Planning Board, which hadn't scheduled a public hearing at the time. The report didn't name the shopping center. If you want to know which corner it is, watch for it on the Planning Board agenda.

These three are very different formats: a bakery you can sit in, a juice bar that also serves food, and a coffee stand you never leave the car for. They all compete for the same hours of the day, and none of them is a dinner place.

Lunch on Berdan Avenue: A Sub Shop Takes Over an Indian Restaurant's Space

Tony Boy's Sandwich House is opening its sixth location at 239 Berdan Avenue, in the space that used to be Paheli Modern Indian Cuisine. A full-service dining room becoming a sandwich counter is a small example of the bigger change happening across town this fall.

The brand has a local history. Anthony Marra Jr. opened Marra's Restaurant in Livingston in 2013. In 2017 he opened a small sandwich shop a few doors down, at first only a few hours a day. Since then it has opened in Madison in 2020, followed by Montville and Montclair, and the original Marra's space in Livingston is now a Tony Boy's too. If you've been driving to the Montville shop, the Wayne location will be a shorter trip.

According to Patch's July coverage, these are the sandwiches the shop is known for:

  • The Stallone: pepperoni, melted fresh mozzarella and extra virgin olive oil, with your choice of fried chicken or eggplant cutlet
  • The Chop Chop: a chopped salad on a sub roll with chicken or eggplant
  • The Nutty Pig: peanut butter sauce, jelly and bacon

Patch said the Wayne shop would open in fall 2026. As of the company's August 6 update, its Wayne location page still said "coming soon" with no date. Fall started last week, so the opening could come any time between now and December.

At Dinner, Wayne Is Mostly Replacing Restaurants

The sit-down dinner side of town is changing too, but the number of restaurants is about the same.

Raeya's opened at 37 Berdan Ave. after a soft launch. Boozy Burbs reported it officially open on July 9. The menu is Northern Italian with steakhouse dishes: housemade pastas, veal and chicken, seafood, premium chops and Black Angus steaks, plus a full craft cocktail program. The look is inspired by classic supper clubs and speakeasy-style lounges. A Google review shown on the restaurant's site calls it a replacement for the Meat Market, though the restaurant itself hasn't said what was there before.

On Route 23, Sakana set a soft opening for September 19 at 25 NJ-23, with reservations available online. Its posted last-seating times are for an all-you-can-eat format. Sakana's page confirms the date, but we haven't seen any outside report confirming that the soft opening happened. The restaurant directs updates and opening specials to its Instagram, @sakana_ayce.

Blossom Asian Bistro, also on Route 23, announced Saturday, September 26 as its last day after it couldn't reach an agreement with its landlord. In their announcement, reported by Daily Voice and NorthJersey.com, the owners said they hope to serve customers again and asked them to follow Instagram for news about a new location. No new site has been named, and no replacement tenant has been reported for 1490 Route 23.

So the dinner count works out to about one opening net of closures: Raeya's and Sakana in, Blossom out. And along Berdan Avenue, the former Paheli space is reopening as a counter-service shop rather than another dining room.

Restaurant hours change, so check before you go. Here's what each one posts right now:

  1. Raeya's: Tuesday to Friday 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 4:30 to 10 p.m., Sunday 4:30 to 8 p.m., closed Mondays, according to its contact page.
  2. Sakana: Monday to Thursday lunch 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner 4:30 to 10 p.m. Friday has the same lunch hours, with dinner until 10:30 p.m. Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to its Wayne page.

Both offer lunch on most days. Raeya's serves lunch Tuesday through Friday, and Sakana serves lunch every day. Even the new sit-down places are open during the day.

What to Watch Through October

Each of the pending projects is waiting on something specific, and you can follow most of them yourself:

  • Morning Club is the one to watch first. October starts tomorrow, and the remodel was underway as of mid-September.
  • Tony Boy's will probably announce on its Wayne location page or its @tonyboysnj Instagram before anywhere else.
  • Tropical Juice Bar still hasn't published a street address. The first place to show the exact Route 23 site will likely be the company's own updates.
  • 7 Brew can't open anywhere until the Planning Board holds a public hearing, and that hearing will be on the township's posted agenda.
  • Blossom Asian Bistro has pointed customers to its Instagram for news about a new location.

Hamburg Turnpike, Berdan Avenue and Route 23 are all getting new places this fall, and almost all of them are built for coffee, breakfast and lunch rather than dinner.

When a new bakery or sub shop shows up down the street, it's often the first thing a buyer asks about. Knowing what's opening near your block can help when you sell, so Anthony Jordan tracks these openings along Route 23, Berdan Avenue and Hamburg Turnpike. If you're thinking about selling, get your free home valuation or schedule a consultation, and we'll talk about how what's opening nearby fits into the way buyers see your home.
